New jobs for Dearne Valley

Published: Monday, 23rd June 2014

A recruitment drive has been launched to fill 40 posts being created at the new waste treatment facility being built at Manvers, Rotherham.

Jobs available include technical, managerial, engineering, skilled, semi-skilled and maintenance roles at the £750m development which will be commissioned early next year and be fully operational by July 2015.

It is being built by 3SE, a partnership of Shanks Group and SSE on behalf of the BDR Waste Partnership.

Shanks is a leading international sustainable waste management business, with over 3,500 employees across the UK, Netherlands, Belgium and Canada.

Shanks Contracts Director, Colin Fletcher, said: “We are delighted to be at the stage where we are starting to recruit our team for this exciting new development which will revolutionise the treatment of leftover household waste from Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham. “We need to fill a wide range of roles and we look forward to taking this major step forward and getting people on board ready for the opening next summer. After this initial recruitment drive we will also be holding a job shop event in October to make further appointments.” Each household in Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham throws away the equivalent of almost a tonne of rubbish each year. This waste will be treated at the Manvers facility instead of being sent to landfill.

The development will include a Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) and Anaerobic Digestion (AD) facilities.

Shanks is working closely with the three BDR partner councils and Jobcentreplus to highlight the new jobs opportunities within local communities.

Advertisements are being placed in local media, and full details can be found at Shanks Municipal and Jobsearch
