Children using a compost bin

Composting at school is a fun way to engage your pupils in gardening and environment. It also helps us gets more out of our food and garden waste.

This year, we are running a poster competition open to all primary schools across Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham. The winners will receive a compost bin and gardening equipment worth £200!

Terms and conditions of school poster competition:

1) Eligibility

The competition is open to all primary school aged children attending a school within Barnsley, Doncaster or Rotherham local authority areas.

Any entrants attending a school outside these areas will be excluded from judging. The competition is open to primary school aged children only (4-11 years old)

Entries must relate to the theme of promoting composting. 

All work must be original 

2) Entry

No purchase is necessary to enter. Entries must be received by no later than the closing date stated of 7th of June 2019. Entries received after this date will not be considered. Only one entry is allowed per child.

3) Data privacy

The data collected during the competition will only be used for the purpose of the competition.

All data will be stored securely and will only be accessible to the BDR education team. All data will be deleted after the campaign period.

All entrants must have parental consent in order for their entry to qualify.

Entries without names will be withdrawn from the competition.

Participants and their parents have the right to withdraw their entry up until 14th of June 2019. Please email in order to do this.

4) Winner announcement

The winners will be contacted via the school in which they are attending. Winners will be contacted as soon as possible after the closing date.

5) Prizes

Two sets of prizes are available to each local authority area (Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham). In each area, one prize will be awarded to infant level (reception, Year 1, Year 2) entrants and the other to Junior level (Year 3-6) entrants. Prize consist of 330 litre composting bin and gardening equipment for use at the participant’s school. Each prize has an equivalent monetary cost of approximately £200.

6) Publicity

The winning poster designs will be used for publicity purposes on our website and social media platforms. With permission from the winning school, there may be follow up PR/Photography and an article in local press publications.

7) Judging process

The posters will be judge by the BDR education team. Winners will be contacted via their schools as soon as possible after the judging process
