Chance to take a tour

Published: Monday, 23rd April 2018

Would you like to take a look behind the scenes at the award-winning facility which is revolutionising the way we deal with leftover household waste in Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham?

A number of tours of the waste treatment plant at Manvers are being organised to show members of the public what happens to the quarter of a million tonnes of waste they throw away each year. Instead of being sent to landfill, it is processed and turned into useful resources including low carbon electricity.

Tours are available on the following dates:

  • Tuesday 26th June 2018 - 10am - 12pm
  • Tuesday 26th June 2018 - 2pm - 4pm
  • Tuesday 26th June 2018 - 6pm - 8pm
  • Saturday 22nd September 2018 - 10am - 12pm
  • Saturday 22nd September 2018 - 2pm - 4pm
  • Saturday 22nd September 2018 - 6pm - 8pm

Further site visits will also be available on Tuesday 20th November 2018, Tuesday 22nd January 2019 and Saturday 9th March 2019.

Each visit is limited to 12 people and spaces will be awarded on a first come, first served basis. If you would like to book a space on any of these sessions please contact Shanks' Community Education Liaison Officer, Abi Cox, on Abigail.Cox@renewi.com or 01709 765350.

You will need to provide the following information: name, contact number, shoe size, and jacket size (M, L, XL or XXL).

The Manvers facility is a partnership between BDR (Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham Councils), and 3SE, a consortium of Shanks and SSE.
